Fortnum & Mason, Swan Lake

Fortnum & Mason Swan Lake A stunning centrepiece
Paul Symes, Fortnum's Visual Presentation Manager, came to us with a concept of how he wanted the impressive atrium to look for Christmas 2009. The window scheme was based on Matthew Bourne's production of Swan Lake.

Design and installation

We took his vision and made it real! DZD designed, manufactured and installed the Swan Lake chandelier.

The technical side of the project was complex as there was no way of getting equipment into the lower ground floor so everything had to be individually attached by abseilers onto the custom made circular framework suspended in the dome at the top of the atrium.

The chandelier was made from hundreds of strings of feathers, marabou balls and pearls strung on nylon. Hanging in the centre were hundreds of white led lights which sparkled beautifully through the white feathers.

As the whole installation was tapered in three tiers it looked different on every floor.
