How to create an eye-catching over mantel garland

Christmas is right around the corner and chances are you are already thinking about how to decorate for the festive season. We recently teamed up with David Lawson from David Lawson Design to bring to you some truly amazing Christmas décor inspiration.

Keep reading to find out exactly how David created this fabulous garland using all DZD products.

“Start (as always) by fully fluffing up your garland – honestly fluff up every branch, this makes such a huge difference to the end result. For this look I used the DZD Plain Garland with Two Tone PVC Needles as the base, it’s really full with lots of branches and looks amazing when it’s fully fluffed!

In order to create the swooping effect in the middle of this garland I secured it on to two small hooks attached to the wall, but if you don’t have anything to attach the garland to you could lay the garland over the mantel but just be careful not to make it too heavy that it falls off.

I usually measure where the middle of the garland is before putting it up – I’ll mark this middle point with some coloured tape, and then use this as a guide when I’m placing and fixing the garland into position. When it’s up, always take a step back and make sure you’re really happy with how it’s positioned before adding the lights and foliage / decorations.

Now it comes to lighting the garland – for this look I used two sets of DZD Static Warm White Connectable Low Voltage Micro LEDs, weaving them through the garland, make sure you cover it evenly, the great thing about these lights is that as they are connectable you can always add more on while decorating if you need them. Again, take a step back and look at where the lights are sitting and adjust as desired. Now it’s time to decorate.

I wanted this garland to look full and very festive, but also easy on the eye so decided to keep the decoration to two elements – but I used a lot of them for visual impact! I started with the DZD Gold Cedar Garland, I weaved four of these through the base garland to add texture, colour and fullness. Then I added multiple DZD Flocked Mistletoe Sprays, these are great as they add structure and height to the overall look. Once they are all in, play around with them to make sure you are happy with how they are sitting. To finish off this garland I tied a DZD Recycled Plastic Bauble to each end of the garland using floral wire.”

We absolutely loved the finished result of David’s garland. Should you wish to recreate this stunning garland, you can find the links to all the products used below. We would absolutely love to see your creations, so don’t forget to tag us (Instagram: dzd_uk) in any of your photos.
